Sustain Dane (
www.SustainDane.org) is a non-profit
organization dedicated to creating communities that deeply enjoy, care for and are
sustained by their unique environment.
We know that many of our current practices as communities are not sustainable and that together we need to find better ways to live in the world. We also understand that both local and global trends continue to impact the community, endangering our high quality of life.
One such effort is our patented "eco-friendly" RainReserveTM rain barrels system which allows individual the opportunity to reduce storm water runoff, keeping our waterways cleaner and healthier. Rain barrels also conserve energy, which reduces our carbon footprint. Our program has been built on a foundation of sustainable intentions, making it a model for sustainable product design. Proceeds from the sale of the RainReserveTM rain barrels systems help to support our other efforts such as:
- Sustainability Discussion Courses - Courses for groups of 8 to 12 participants from a workplace, a faith community, or the community at large.
- Sustainability E-Learning Courses - A fresh and innovative learning experience developed by The Natural Step that provides practical sustainability education to a broad base of business, government, and community organizations that are serious about moving towards more sustainable operations.
- Sustainable Communities - Supporting the development of ecologically, economically, and socially healthy communities for the long term, using The Natural Step framework for sustainability as a guide, and a democratic, highly participative development process as the method.
- Green Pages - A directory including contact information for over 150 Madison area sustainability organizations.
- Sustainability Resource Collection - A collection of sustainability resources for the public libraries. The resources are listed in the
"Sustaining Our World; Our Communities; Ourselves" pamphlet available at Madison area libraries.
